Over the past several years I have been working with Michael Cooley (https://cooleystudios.com/) learning to draw and paint in oils. It has been a journey and a joy. All I can say is that I lose myself in my work. With all the talk of mindfulness these days, painting and drawing is definitely a time when I experience mindfulness. It is just me and the project all other stressors and worries fade to the background.
Michael teaches from a fine arts background using skills that the old masters used. This includes doing a monochromatic underpainting to adding many layers of colors until you are satisfied with the result. Here is an example of an underpainting and a finished product.

A work that I am very proud of called “Potential” was featured here (https://threefifths.online/2021/08/07/potential/) and shown on OSU’s campus. I will also be showing it at an art show and fundraiser for African American Caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients (https://www.aaawacarearts.com/).

Lately, I have been working on landscapes. Feel free to view below:
I hope to include more of my work here as time go on.
