Loving landscapes and flowers

Well, I have completed the conservatory painting. I have an image for this post but I’m not sure it does it justice. It really is amazing what a photograph will capture vs what the eye sees. Anyway, I have found that doing landscapes is much more enjoyable, in some ways, than doing portraits but I really like both. Actually, I have my first commission (very exciting) that entails several faces. It will be a logo for a research project for African American caregivers for dementia and Alzheimer’s. The professor bid on my commission from the charity art show where I shared my “Potential” piece. I have shown this in a previous blog post which is a series of faces of African American children. The bidder was impressed with my treatment of the different skin tones of the subjects and wanted that for the logo piece. She also wants the color purple incorporated. I am ready to get the drawings transferred to canvas after showing a color sketch to the bidder. More on the progress for this later.

After I complete the commission, I hope to get back to landscapes and flowers. I have taken photos of flowers and I think I will do a series of these. I’m considering figuring out how to get these out there for sale. I don’t really want to make money at this, but do want to show my work and I am running out of wall space, so they need to go somewhere. I have been watching “Portrait Artist of the Year” and “Landscape Artist of the Year” on Amazon Prime. I am fascinated by the artists’ processes and get more inspired to keep painting. I’m sure my work would not make the cut mostly because it can be too “chocolate boxy,” but I am going to continue to work on how to tell a “story” with my work.
