It has been way too long since I posted here, but I am still at it. I recently retired from my day job and am really enjoying it. I thought I would paint more, but I had a bit of a crisis in confidence and have been slow to figure out how to work in painting with all my other activities (ha ha). At the studio we have been working on drawing. I have a few to show. I also did a portrait of my nephew and his new bride as a wedding gift. I find drawing and using monotone really fascinating in that you can really see that you are making something flat look 3D. I think, and my mentor agrees, that this will help my painting. Somehow I don’t always make that connection when using color, although that is what I do. I just joined the Dublin Area Art League. I hope that will motivate me to keep pressing on and improve my skills.
When I retired I put together an art show and auction to benefit the program that I worked for for so long. I displayed 10 of my paintings and they all were purchased. Of course it helped to have lots of family and friends there. My crisis in confidence came from a fellow artist who said nice things about my work but that it might not be popular in my area. I wasn’t sure how to take that and it left me a bit gun shy. I have now scheduled painting on Wednesdays, so I should be more productive.
